"Under Proposition 65 the state's maximum allowable daily level for lead is 0.5 micrograms per day. Based on that, the Environmental Law Foundation calculated that vinegars could contain no more than 34 parts per billion."  (Source: Environmental Health News)
Lead levels fluctuate by harvest, soil composition in the region of origin, and storage methods rather than a blanket failure of an entire product line. Studies and consumer testing have found that aged balsamic vinegars and certain red wine vinegars frequently test higher fo heavy metals like lead compared other varieties.
